We have started to deliberately seek out caravan parks located "out-of-town"... ensuring that Budge can stay cocooned in nature and Sam can find glorious excuses for long morning bike rides. In Port Douglas we stick to this winning formula, which lets us keep the tourist hot spot at a comfortable arms length. Our first two days are a warm up (weekend craft market... scenic lookouts... three-mile-beach... special walk-a-homeless-dog experience...) for the mandatory main event - snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef.

At the Port Douglas dog shelter, you can volunteer to take one of their homeless hounds for a walk. We are entrusted with 6 month old puppy Madison. It's fair to say that she took us for a walk. |
